what is a tandem jump?

A tandem jump, often referred to as a tandem skydive, is a method of skydiving where a novice skydiver is attached to an experienced instructor.

This allows the novice jumper to experience the thrill of freefall and parachuting without the need for extensive training or prior experience.

Here's how a tandem jump typically works: Briefing and Preparation: Before the jump, you'll receive a brief orientation from your instructor.

This will cover the basic body positions, safety procedures, and what to expect during the jump.

You'll also be provided with a jumpsuit, harness, and any necessary safety equipment.

Gear Up: You'll be fitted with a harness that is specially designed for tandem jumps.

The harness will be attached to your instructor, who will be responsible for both of your safety during the jump.

Boarding the Aircraft: You'll board the aircraft along with your instructor and any other tandem pairs.

The aircraft will ascend to the desired altitude, usually around 10,000 to 14,000 feet (3,000 to 4,300 meters).

Exiting the Aircraft: When you reach the desired altitude, the aircraft's door will open.

You and your instructor will move towards the door, and when it's your turn, you'll exit the plane together.

This is where the adrenaline rush begins as you experience the sensation of freefall! Freefall: During freefall, you'll experience a brief period of intense exhilaration as you plummet through the sky.

The sensation of falling is unlike anything else, and you'll be able to enjoy the breathtaking views around you.

Freefall typically lasts for around 30 to 60 seconds.

Parachute Deployment: At a predetermined altitude, your instructor will deploy the parachute.

The sudden deceleration will be noticeable as you transition from the fast-paced freefall to a slower, controlled descent.

Canopy Flight: Once the parachute is deployed, you'll be under a fully functional parachute canopy.

During this phase, you might have the opportunity to steer the parachute under the guidance of your instructor.

This is a more serene part of the experience, allowing you to take in the views and enjoy the sensation of gliding through the air.

Landing: Your instructor will guide the parachute to a safe landing area, usually a designated spot on the ground.

They will handle the landing process, ensuring a safe and controlled touchdown for both of you.

It's important to note that tandem jumps are designed to be safe and accessible for beginners.

The instructor is responsible for handling all aspects of the jump, including deploying the parachute and ensuring a safe landing.

However, listening to your instructor's instructions and following their guidance is crucial to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience.

Tandem jumps are a popular way for people to experience skydiving without the need for extensive training, as you're accompanied by a highly trained and experienced professional throughout the entire process.
